Eritrea, one of Africa's smallest countries, consistently produces the continent's most successful cyclists. We've had the privilege of visiting the country twice for races and hope to explore it again, as its people are among the warmest, most peaceful, and helpful we've encountered anywhere in the world.
Yoel, like all Eritreans, excels in climbing, but his true strength lies in his sprint. As a junior, he won the African Road Championships and had an impressive race at the 2022 World Championships in Australia.
Our friends in Eritrea, especially Meron Amanuel, have recommended Yoel to us and praised his talent. Meron knows the challenging journey to Europe and understands what it means to adapt to new conditions despite talent. Meron was among the first African athletes in our team in 2014, alongside Dan Craven and Mekseb Debesay. Meron now runs a well-established bike shop in Asmara and is actively involved as a coach. We trust his recommendations and are excited to welcome Yoel to BIKE AID.
