With #rideforafrica, we create awareness and enable real opportunities:
African Cycling: Between Talent and Challenges
Africa is a continent full of undiscovered talents. Countries like Eritrea, Algeria, South Africa, Mauritius, Ethiopia, and Rwanda have already produced impressive riders, while emerging nations like Benin, Morocco, and Uganda are on the rise. One such talent was Mekseb Debesay, who competed in his first international races with BIKE AID and later rode as a professional for Team Dimension Data in the WorldTour.
But the road is tough: Many African riders have little financial support, face challenging visa conditions, and have limited travel opportunities. Every year, we receive hundreds of inquiries from young riders hoping for a chance. With your help, we can offer at least some of them a future in professional cycling.
#rideforafrica: The Africa Jersey with a Mission
BIKE AID has designed a special jersey symbolizing our connection to African cycling. Every supporter who donates at least €100 will receive this jersey, with all proceeds going toward our initiative "30,490 € for Africa."
Why this number? 30,490 kilometers represent the length of Africa's coastline – a symbol of the barriers we want to overcome together. Every contribution helps give African athletes a place on our team and supports young talents on their way to Kigali.
How You Can Help:
Where Does the Money Go?
Currently, we have two Eritrean athletes in our team, Dawit Yemane and Yoel Habteab. Since 2014, 21 athletes from 10 different African countries have had the chance to be part of Team BIKE AID. We want to continue and expand this initiative.
Starting in April this year, another African rider will join Team BIKE AID. We want to finance this through the fundraising campaign and will introduce the athlete separately.
For the grand finale of the campaign, we invite all cycling fans to a major event with a social ride and public viewing on September 28, 2025..
Join us and make a statement for a fairer future in cycling!
